In the laser cutting process, the nozzle is a common consumable, and it is also one of the important parts in laser cutting. It is located at the bottom end of the cutting head, keeping track of the distance of the cutting head to the workpiece during the cutting process, and guiding the gas to smoothly pass the workpiece to be cut.

What role does the nozzle play in cutting?

1. Adjust the direction of high-pressure airflow and air pressure through the internal shape of the nozzle to maintain the pressure between the workpiece and the nozzle.

2. Prevent the molten material of the workpiece from splashing back into the cutting head, thereby protecting the inner lens of the cutting head.

3. Provide capacitance signal to the height adjustment system to ensure the stable operation of the height adjustment system.

How to choose nozzles correctly

Types and characteristics of nozzles

Features of single-layer nozzles and applicable plates

1. Generally used for melting and cutting, using nitrogen or compressed air as auxiliary gas.

2. Used for fine cutting with high precision and surface requirements.

Applicable board:

For cutting stainless steel with nitrogen, a single-layer nozzle is generally used, with a single nozzle of 1.5 for the diameter below 2 mm and a single nozzle of 2.0 for the diameter above 2 mm.

Note: The specific applicability is subject to on-site process debugging!

Features of double-layer nozzles and applicable plates

1. Generally used for oxidative cutting, using oxygen as auxiliary gas.

2. The air flow is converged and compressed twice, and the effect of cutting carbon steel is remarkable.

Applicable board:

For oxygen cutting of carbon steel, a double-layer nozzle is generally used, with a double-layer 1.2/1.5 within 3mm; a double-layer 2.0/3.0 is generally used above 3mm.

 Common causes and effects of damage

The follow-up is not sensitive, the surface of the plate is not flat, and the impact occurs during the cutting process, which causes the nozzle hole to deform and causes problems in the gas flow direction.

If the perforation process is not adjusted properly, the slag on the nozzle surface will cause the nozzle surface to deform, which will also cause problems in the gas flow direction.

The influence of nozzles on cutting quality

When the cutting gas is sprayed out, it will cause uneven gas volume, which makes it easier for the cutting section to have melting stains on one side and not on the other side. It has little effect on cutting thin plates below 3mm. When cutting the board of more than 3mm, its influence is more serious, and sometimes it will not cut through or cannot be cut.

Affect the quality of sharp corners

When cutting workpieces with sharp or small angles, local overmelting is easy to occur. When cutting thick plates, it may be impervious or unable to cut.

Affect perforation

The perforation of medium and thick plates is unstable, and the time is not easy to control. The penetration of the thick plate will cause overmelting, and the penetration conditions are not easy to grasp.

If any of the above damages or affects the cutting during the cutting process, the nozzle should be replaced in time.
