1.Why fiber laser use gas?

First of all, let's understand the principle of the fiber laser cutting machine. The laser beam emitted by the fiber laser generator changes its direction through the reflector, and then it is focused by the lens to form a high-power and high-density laser beam. The metal material at the irradiated area melts rapidly, Gasification, ablation, and cutting are completed. In this process, there is gasification, so auxiliary gas is necessary. Commonly used cutting auxiliary gases include nitrogen, oxygen and compressed air, and sometimes argon is used.


2.Functions of the cutting auxiliary gas in the cutting process   

 

Combustion and heat dissipation;

Protect the focusing lens and prolong the service life;

Blow off the melting stains caused by cutting in time to prevent the cutting melting stains from rebounding upward into the nozzle.

3.Application characteristics of different gases

Nitrogen, using nitrogen as the cutting auxiliary gas will form a protective layer around the metal of the cutting material to prevent the material from being oxidized and avoid the formation of oxide film. At the same time, it can be directly processed further. The end surface of the cut is bright and white, which is common in Cutting of stainless steel and aluminum plates.


Argon, like nitrogen, is an inert gas, which can also prevent oxidation and nitridation during laser cutting. However, the price of argon gas is high, and it is extremely uneconomical to use argon gas for ordinary laser cutting of metal sheets. Argon gas cutting is mainly used for titanium and titanium alloys.


Oxygen. During cutting, oxygen and iron produce a chemical reaction, which promotes the endothermic melting of the metal, which can greatly improve the cutting efficiency and cutting thickness. However, due to the presence of oxygen, an obvious oxide film will be produced on the end face of the incision. It will produce a quenching effect around the cutting surface, which will have a certain impact on the subsequent processing. The end surface of the cut is black or yellow, which is mainly used for the cutting of carbon steel plates.


Compressed air


If compressed air is used as the cutting assist gas, we know that there are about 21% oxygen and 78% nitrogen in the air. As far as the cutting speed is concerned, it is indeed not as fast as the pure oxygen flux cutting method, as far as the cutting quality is concerned. , Indeed, there is no good cutting method with pure nitrogen protection. However, compressed air can be provided directly with an air compressor, which is easier to obtain than nitrogen, oxygen, and argon, and there is no risk that may be caused by gas leakage. The most important point is that the price of compressed air is very cheap. There is a constant supply of compressed air with an air compressor, and the cost is probably a fraction of the cost of using nitrogen.

4.Gas standard requirements

Oxygen: Using liquid oxygen (high pressure liquid bottle withstand pressure of 4.5MPA), 

a vaporizer (with a pressure of 4.5MPA, flow rate: 1 cubic meter / minute, output pressure: 2.0MPA) must be added to raise the liquid state to a normal temperature. Purity ≥99.6%, welded steel pipe, the pipe must be cleaned. 

Nitrogen:

Using liquid nitrogen (high pressure liquid bottle withstand pressure 4.5MPA), a vaporizer (pressure resistance 4.5MPA, flow rate: 2.5 cubic meters / minute, output pressure: 3.0MPA) must be added to raise the liquid state to a normal temperature. Purity ≥99.99%, welded steel pipe, the pipe must be cleaned.

Air: 

Cutting sheets with high-pressure air requires pure and dry high-pressure air (maximum working pressure 3.0MPA).
